St. John Grade School Staff & Students (Rural area)
There were students who lived in the rural Edenton area who did not attend grade school in town. Many of these students were the children of farmers or farm laborers. Interviews of some of these former students revealed that they received a better education from their rural teachers than the children who attended school in town. The graduates of St. John noted how they received higher grades on their tests, reports, and were top in their class once they were bused into Edenton to complete their education; of course the towns' folk have a different perspective on that claim.
The images below shows photos of the inside of the school and some of the original artifacts that remain in the building.
